Facial Hair Transplantation
Facial hair transplantation is a procedure performed on the face to restore the growth of hair on portions of the face where there is no or minimal hair growth. It is usually performed for restoring beard, and moustache. It can also be used to make acne scars or other scars less visible.
Most men love to have thick beards and some may like a clean shave. If you are looking for ways to enhance your facial hair growth, beard transplantation is your right choice. Loss of beard can be due to various reasons such as genes, injuries, burns, or hair removal treatments. Beard hair transplantation focuses on getting a thicker beard that looks natural.
Need for Beard Transplantation
Beard transplantation is suitable for men who have injuries, burns, male baldness, and genetic diseases. This procedure can help to have a thick and full beard.
When you decide on a beard hair transplantation your doctor will conduct a test to check your medical and mental health. This is because this procedure needs to be performed at the right time and you should have only realistic expectations. Your beard will be carefully examined to know the areas to be covered. The area from which hair will be picked is also examined to know if it is suitable. All the tests will help your doctor if you are the right candidate for the procedure.
Types of Beard Transplantation
Beard transplantation is similar to hair transplantation where hair from one portion of the body is taken and transplanted to the area where you want to have hair. It can be performed using two different methods namely:
- Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE): It is the most commonly used beard transplantation technique as it does not have any side effects and downtime. In this method, hair grafts are collected from the donor area and are transplanted to the area where you want to grow your beard. The procedure takes around 2 to 4 hours and the results vary from one patient to another. You will have small spots in the donor area which clear after a few weeks and the recovery time is also faster. It is less painful and that is why it is the most commonly used method.
- Follicular unit transplantation (FUT): In this procedure, small strips of tissue will be removed from the donor area. Then, hair follicles are extracted from that tissues and the tissues will be closed using stitches. The collected hair follicles are transplanted on the area where you want to have facial hair or beard. Though the procedure takes a long time, it helps to have full beards as many hairs will be transplanted.
What Happens After the Surgery?
After the beard transplantation procedure, you will have small crusts in the areas of transplantation. However, they vanish after a few days. You can shave your beards as usual 7 or 10 days after the procedure.
After 2 or 3 weeks, the newly transplanted starts to fall down and it is normal. New hair starts growing after 3 or 4 months. You can see your full beard within a year.
